Phyllis Schutte

Hastings resident, Phyllis Marie Schutte, 67, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Mary Lanning HealthCare in Hastings.

Rosary will be Friday, May 17, 2013; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 18, 2013; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Markers will be placed at Parkview Cemetery and Shaffer Cemetery, in Jewell County, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Catholic Social Services. Closed casket visitation will be Friday, May 17, 2013; 10:00 A.M - 9:00 P.M at the funeral home.

Phyllis was born September 7, 1945 to Irvin & Ellis (Lentfer) Pettit on the family homestead northeast of Burr Oak, Kansas. Phyllis attended Oak Creek one-room school house from kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated from Burr Oak High School. Following graduation Phyllis enrolled at the Hastings Beauty Academy where she earned her cosmetology license. On April 1, 1967 Phyllis married Raymond Schutte at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Shane and Lance. Phyllis was a hair stylist for 45 years and her sole purpose besides being a wife and mother was to make her clients' look and feel beautiful. She owned and was a stylist in numerous salons in Hastings, Nebraska. Upon her retirement Phyllis missed her close relationships she had built with her many clients over the years. Following retirement, Phyllis also performed volunteer work in the Hastings community.

Phyllis Marie Schutte was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Alan Pettit.
