Ralph Lake

Former Hastings, NE resident Ralph Raymond Lake, 94, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Salina Regional Hospital, Salina, KS with his wife by his side.

A graveside service with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 30, at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, NE with Pastor John Whitsett officiating. A small reception will be held following the service at the Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene. Memorials are suggested to the Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene building fund. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ralph was born on April 21, 1924, at Eskridge, KS to Raymond & Lena (Schumate) Lake. He graduated high school at Saffordville, KS in 1942. After graduation, he attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia where he played football until being called to join the U.S. Army Airforce. He served in the Armed Forces from 1943 to 1946. On March 7, 1947, Ralph was united in marriage to Marjorie Smith in Mankato, KS. They were blessed with two sons, Michael and Scott.

Allis-Chalmers brought them to Hastings, NE in 1970 and was Ralph’s employer for 35 years. They remained in the area for a total of 47 years until moving to Salina a year ago to be closer to the family.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lena; son, Michael; and sisters, Betty, Roberta and Mildred.
