Hastings resident, Ralph A. Powell, 90, of 1107 W. 12th Street, died Friday, March 30, 2007 at Good Samaritan Village, Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be Thursday, April 5, 2007; 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial will be Thursday, April 5, 2007; 2:00 P.M. in Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at Butler-Volland Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 3, 2007; 1P.M.-9P.M. & Wednesday, April 4, 2007; 1P.M. - 9P.M. & Thursday April 5, 2007; 1 hr. prior to service at the church.
Mr. Powell was born April 2, 1916 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Walter W. & Clara (Treon) Powell. He graduated from Grand Island High School and worked at Chicago Lumber Company after graduating. He then started working at Riverside Power Plant as a boiler man chemist. On August 31, 1941, he married Alice June Wheeler in Grand Island at Trinity Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on December 1, 2006. They moved to Hastings in 1943 and he started working at Nebraska Public Power Company as a shift load dispatcher. He retired as assistant chief dispatcher in 1981. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks, Optimists and LaDanza Dance Club.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice June and two brothers, Larry & Floyd.
