Ralph Tomjack

Hastings resident, Ralph "Jewell" Tomjack, 86, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at Sutton Community Home, Sutton, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Friday, January 23, 2015; 10:30 A.M., Mass of Christian Burial will follow the rosary at 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Hastings Catholic Schools Trust. Visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2015; 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Jewell was born April 27, 1928 on a farm near Ewing, Nebraska to Ralph & Stella (Jewell) Tomjack. He graduated from Ewing High School in 1945 and graduated from Grand Island Business College. Jewell served in the U.S. Air Force from August 21, 1946 until February 20, 1948. He married Virginia Lyon on May 5, 1951; they later divorced. He married Fern E. Anderson on October 4, 1969 in Hastings; she preceded him in death on January 13, 2013. Jewell worked for Hastings Irrigation for 36 years and held titles of Office Manager, Controller, and Director of Personnel until his retirement in April 1991. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Men's Club, and Eagles.

Jewell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern E. Tomjack; one brother; one sister; and one great-grandchild.
