It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Randall H. “Randy” Hurst, a beloved resident of Hastings, who departed this world on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the age of 69. Randy's passing marks the end of a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings, with Chaplain John Mueller officiating. We understand that not everyone can be there in person, so the service will also be live-streamed on the Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Randy was born on October 20, 1954, in Hastings, NE, to the late Harry and Geraldine (Keeler) Hurst. He grew up in the community he would come to love, graduating from Hastings High School, where he forged lifelong friendships. Randy was blessed with two wonderful children, Lisa and Josh, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Randy worked at Case New Holland for over 25 years, exemplifying hard work and dedication throughout his career. But it was outside of work where Randy truly thrived. He found joy in watching car races and the simple pleasures of life like hunting, fishing, and fixing up cars. He cherished moments shared with friends, filling them with laughter and creating lasting memories.
A passionate Husker fan, Randy proudly supported the team through every season, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. Randy's greatest passion, however, was his family. His love for life and his family was evident in everything he did. Randy cherished the time he spent fishing and hunting with his son. He made precious memories with his daughter during their many shopping excursions. Randy would dedicate weeks at a time to assisting his children at their homes, offering support in any way possible. He adored his grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. He never missed an opportunity to cheer them on, traveling near and far to witness their accomplishments and share in their joy.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, who he now joins in eternal rest. He leaves behind a family that loved him dearly: his children, Josh Hurst and his wife Nichole of Lincoln, NE, Lisa Pfeifer and her husband Dustin of Omaha, NE; his precious grandchildren, Adelynn, Kinley, Emery, Ava, and Isabelle; his brother, Gayle Hurst, and his wife Sandy of Hastings, NE. Randy is also survived by many other family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
In this time of sorrow, we find comfort in the many memories Randy leaves behind and the knowledge that his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Randy, you will be forever missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace.
