Raymond Kumke

August 8, 1938 — December 22, 2014

Hastings resident, Raymond L. Kumke, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at CHI Nebraska Heart, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Sunday, December 28, 2014; 7:30 P.M. and Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 29, 2014; 9:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Patrick Barvek officiating. Burial with military honors will be Monday, December 29, 2014; 2:30 P.M. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hastings Catholic Schools, Catholic Social Services or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be Saturday, December 27, 2014; 12:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., Sunday, December 28, 2014; 1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to rosary and mass at the church.

Ray was born August 8, 1938 in Hastings, Nebraska to Herman R. & Frieda (Bartels) Kumke. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1956 and Lincoln School of Commerce in 1957, and then joined the U.S. Army in January 12, 1960. Ray was honorably discharged on March 6, 1962, and in July of that year he married Wanda Kile. In August 2000, Ray retired from Walco International where he worked as a salesman and manager of the Holdrege Division. Ray took great pride in his work and especially enjoyed meeting livestock producers. After his retirement, Ray worked part-time for Gottsch Feeders as safety manager. Ray's family and friends were extremely important to him, and he found great amusement in his grandchildren. Ray found peace in nature, was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing. He was a faithful follower of Bluehawk Football and a long-time supporter of Hastings Catholic Schools. Ray belonged to Saint Michael's Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brothers & spouse, Delton & Mabel Kumke and Duane Kumke; sisters & spouses, Alice & Loren Waterbury and Joan & Orville Kuhlman; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Kumke; and sister-in-law, Maxine Hall.
