Lifelong Hastings resident, Raymond J. Lipsack, 92, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his home.
Services will be Monday, April 2, 2012; 10:30 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, March 31, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M., Sunday, April 1, 2012; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 7:00 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Raymond J. Lipsack Memorial Fund, c/o Kathy Struss, 917 East 2nd Street, Hastings, Nebraska 68901.
Ray was born to Jacob and Margaret (Hohnstein) Lipsack on February 7, 1920, in Hastings, Nebraska. He attended public schools in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1937. He married LaVerna Steinhauer, on June 22, 1941, in York, Nebraska. He farmed his family farmstead east of Hastings until moving to town in 1948. Ray worked for Timberlock and started working at Debus Bakery in 1951 retiring from Metz Bakery in 1984 after 33 years as Chief Maintenance Engineer. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, his neighbors, and most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia and The Burger King Coffee Club.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVerna Lipsack on January 25, 1981; brother, Reuben; sister and brother-in-law, Esther & Al Buss; and his grandson, Ryan Struss.
