Raymond Wolfe

Fairfield resident, Raymond Leonard Wolfe, 78, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his home in rural Fairfield.

Rosary will be at Livingston-Butler-Volland Chapel on Friday, July 24, 2009; 7:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 25, 2009; 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Assumption Church , Deweese, Nebraska with Father Loras K. Grell officiating. Burial with military rites by Fairfield American Legion Post #256 will be at the Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 23, 2009; 6:00 P.M.- 9:00 P.M., Friday, July 24, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and Saturday, July 25, 2009, 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be donated to the Clay County Historical Society or to the donor's choice in memoriam of Raymond L. Wolfe.

Raymond was born March 14, 1931 on a farm near Spring Ranch, Nebraska to Steve & Helen (Rech) Wolfe. He moved with his parents to Brainard, Nebraska and Crete, Nebraska before returning to the farm north of Fairfield. He attended Wolfe Country School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1948. He farmed with his parents until he was drafted into the United States Marines in 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to the family farm and attended Veterans Agriculture School. On October 1, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ardyce Shane at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings, Nebraska. They resided on the farm near Fairfield where he had lived since 1941. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Fairfield American Legion Post #256, Hastings Eagles, Knights of Columbus and the Clay County Historical Society. Raymond had been a Pioneer Seed Representative for 39 years and farmed near Fairfield until retiring. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his wife and his family and friends. He also enjoyed working on the farm.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Delores Wolfe and Colletta Pomery-Kubicek.
