Raynold John Verkamp

Hastings resident Raynold John “Ray” Verkamp, 91, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE. 

Rosary will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, January 12, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 13, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. with the family present 4-5 p.m. Sunday, January 12, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or Hastings Catholic Schools Foundation. Ray was born December 6, 1933, in Lawrence, NE to Leo and Theresa (Kitten) Verkamp. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1952 and Central Community College with a degree in refrigeration. Ray served in the U.S. Army from January 26, 1954 to January 25, 1956. He married Mary Lou Parr on June 14, 1958, at Assumption Catholic Church. 

Ray worked for Hastings Industries, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. 

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Leona (J.B.) Florence, Bernice (James) Selko, and Mary Lou Brunken; brother, James (Zerita) Verkamp; and two infant siblings, Joseph and Rosalia.
