Reka Smidt

Hastings resident, Reka G. Smidt, 94, of Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Wednesday, December 19, 2007; 2:00 P.M. at Hanover Presbyterian Church with Pastor Lloyd Boyce officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery, rural Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday, December 17, 2007; 1 P.M.- 9 P.M., Tuesday, December 18, 2007; 9 A.M. - 9 P.M. with family present from 6 P.M - 8 P.M. at the funeral home & Wednesday, December 19, 2007; 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Hanover Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Smidt was born February 5, 1913 in Webster County Nebraska to John & Anna (Smook) Benker. She graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, Nebraska on May 24, 1932 and married George Smidt on November 4, 1935. He preceded her in death in May of 1968. She worked at central supply at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital until 1977, delivering surgical supplies, then as a Foster Grandmother for 25 years in the Hastings Public Schools and Pooh Corner. She was a member of Hanover Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Smidt was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; two brothers, Andrew Benker, Arthur Benker and a sister, Margaret Morrow.
