Richard Davis

Glenvil resident, Richard E. Davis, 77, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, July 24, 2010; 2:00 P.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil with Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, July 22, 2010; 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Friday, July 23, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil Fire & Rescue, or the Morrison Cancer Center.

Richard was born October 25, 1932 in Spring Ranch, Nebraska to Henry & Marie (Ockinga) Davis. He was baptized by Rev. E.C. Meyer on April 2, 1933, and was confirmed by Rev. Richard Fruehling on May 25, 1947. On March 29, 1953 he married JoAnn Hinrichs at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil by Rev. Charles Miller. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. Richard farmed for a couple of years and then worked construction and carpentry. He worked for 20 years at the Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center. He served on the Village Council, Glenvil Fire & Rescue for 20 years, Glenvil American Legion, and served on the Immanuel Lutheran Church Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and his favorite hobby was woodworking. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard said "It is better to wear out than rust out."

Richard was preceded in death by his father.
