Richard January

Richard Joel January, 61, of 3501 S. Valley Rd, Hastings, Nebraska, went to be with Our Heavenly Father, Saturday, March 30, 2002 from his home surrounded by his family.

Services with Masonic Rites will be Tuesday, April 2, 2002; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska with the Rev. Al Schultz from Eagan, Minnesota officiating. Burial with Military Rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Richard Joel January was born January 27, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late Chester & Margaret (Baugh) January. He was raised in Hastings, Nebraska and graduated from Hastings High School in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Deanna E. Robare, on June 13, 1959. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He attended Hastings College and graduated from Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska with an Associate Degree in Electronics. His career was in electronics until 1977 when Richard joined Farm Bureau Insurance Company as an agent in Alma, Nebraska. In 1979, he accepted the Agency Manager position for Scottsbluff/Sioux Agency in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. In March of 1984, he was appointed Division Manager for western Nebraska. March 1987, he was promoted to South Dakota Agency Vice-President and resided in Huron, South Dakota. Minnesota and Utah agencies were added to South Dakota in April 1996 and he was appointed Regional Vice-President in January 1999. Richard graduated in October 1987 from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania with a CLU designation and was a member of NAIFA and GAMA. He is a Master Mason at Mitchell Lodge #263 in Mitchell, Nebraska and a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Alliance, Nebraska and a member of the Methodist Church in Huron, South Dakota.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Margaret January.
