Richard Kincaid

October 16, 1938 — September 21, 2017

After an eight-year battle with Alzheimer's, Lincoln, NE resident, Richard "Dick" Kincaid, 78, formerly of Hastings, was called home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2017. His body was donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska for research and education.

A Celebration of Life will be Monday, October 9, 2017; 10:30 A.M. with a light lunch to follow at Evangelical Free Church, Hastings with Rev. Steve Mason officiating. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association - Lincoln Chapter, 1500 South 70th Street, Suite 201, Lincoln, Nebraska 68506. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Dick was born October 16, 1938, in Ralston, Nebraska to Dallas and Ona Walker. He graduated from Independence High School in Independence, Kansas and Hastings College. Dick married Nella Burns on June 3, 1962. He served the YMCA for more than 20 years in various capacities and communities and retired in 2001 after 10 years as the Executive Director with the American Cancer Society-Nebraska. Throughout his life, Dick was very active in the community, with duties ranging from volunteer to organization president. His passion to serve was fully recognized when he and Nella received the With Our Youth Award in 2006, a national award for which they were nominated by HARTA (Hastings Area Retired Teachers Association).

Dick was an avid runner and competed in several marathons, half-marathons, and other races. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, spending time with friends and spending time with his family, both immediate and extended. His grandsons were the highlight of his life, maybe even his world, and they always had his undivided attention. Dick and his granddog, Bentley, also shared a uniquely special relationship.

Dick left a legacy through the way he lived his life. Words that best describe Dick, as shared by family and friends, are loving, compassionate, patient, strong, hard-working, servant, caring, disciplined, selfless, fun, courageous, people-person, teacher, positive, giver, and encourager. Dick was a fighter to the end, remaining positive, sporting a smile, and living life to its fullest. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dick was preceded in death by parents Dallas and Ona Kincaid; sisters Marie, Irene, and Ruth; and brothers Dallas, Wayne, and Raymond.

Survivors include wife Nella Kincaid of 55 years; son Brian Kincaid; daughter Carmen and husband, Jeff Schwab; grandsons Jordan Schwab, Christian Schwab, and his wife, Whitney; brother Harry Kincaid; sister Peggy Butler; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
