Juniata resident, Richard Lee Speth, 69, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009 at his residence at 110 E 12th Street, Juniata, NE.
Services will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 P.M. in Steele City Cemetery, Steele City, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, 2009; 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., and Wednesday, December 30, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Steele City Cemetery.
Richard was born October 4, 1940 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Oscar Edward & Zelda Margaret (Payne) Speth. He graduated from Steele City High School. He entered the U.S. Army on September 8, 1961 and was released on August 28, 1963, he served during the Berlin crisis. On July 24, 1964, he married Sharren Theesen. They moved to Juniata in 1969. He worked in construction and then worked as a maintenance worker for the Nebraska Department of Roads. Richard was a member of the American Legion in Juniata. He had been an avid coon hunter, loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and horse racing. He also enjoyed his family and grandchildren and was family oriented.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patricia (Duke) Anderson and Darlene Nickel.
