Richard H. Theesen

Hastings resident Richard H. Theesen, 89, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, at his home. 

Private services and burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil, NE. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the family to be established later. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family. Richard was born May 10, 1935, in Adams County, NE to Dirk “Dick” O. and Lena G. (Kreienheder) Theesen. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1953. Richard was married to E. Glennis (Gitt) Theesen from 1957 to 1982. In 1991, he married Roberta Ross. 

After trying his hand at various jobs ranging from construction laborer to driving an ice cream truck, in 1961, Richard started work with the Overhead Door Company of Hastings. In 1977, he went into business for himself and started The Door Service, selling, servicing and installing garage doors. Later in his career, he worked for Hansen Building Specialties, Raynor Doors and Kully Pipe & Steel Company. 

Richard enjoyed researching genealogy and documented many branches of his family tree. He was fascinated by electronics and was never afraid to take something electrical apart in an attempt to fix it – or discover what made it tick. Throughout the years, he also tackled lots of do-it-yourself house-remodeling projects, from working on foundations to installing suspended ceilings. 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Dravland; and brother, Herbert Theesen.
