Richard Tickler

Richard Bieck Tickler, passed away at his home in St. Augustine, Florida at the age of 95, on September 22, 2017.

Memorial Services will be Thursday, September 28, 2017; 2:00 P.M. at Glenmoor with Pastor Michael Ellis from St. Francis in the Field Episcopal Church officiating. A family graveside service will be Tuesday, October 3, 2017; 10:00 A.M. at Harvard Cemetery in Harvard, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to his treasured alma mater, Hastings College Foundation, 710 North Turner Avenue, Hastings, Nebraska 68901 or Saint Marks's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral building fund, 422 North Burlington, Hastings, Nebraska 68901.

A native of O'Neill, Nebraska, Richard was one of three children born to Oliver Kossuth Tickler and Anna Clara Bieck Tickler. He earned a BA from Hastings College, NE and went on to Post Graduate studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Louisiana State University, and earned his MBA from Columbia University. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Hastings College.

Exxon afforded him a long and successful business career which resulted with the family living in Baton Rouge, LA; Havana, Cuba; Miami, FL; Cartagena, Columbia; Brussels, Belgium; New Canaan, CT; Houston, TX; and retiring in Panama City, FL and St. Augustine, FL. Richard was also a cradle Episcopalian. He and his family always found a church family wherever they lived but a piece of his heart always remained at his home church of St. Marks Pro-Cathedral in Hastings, NE.

Surviving family members include his devoted wife of 71 years, Dorothy King Tickler; daughters, Janet (Stan) Tickler Glasofer and Barbara (Ted) Tickler Hellmuth; grandchildren, Joseph (Andrea) Glasofer, James (Christine) Reid, Daniel (Kimberly) Hellmuth, Amelia (Justin) Cook, Elizabeth (Chase) Brown, Dustin Reid, Caroline (Bo) Hawkins, and Laura Glasofer; 10 great-grandchildren, Kaylynne, James, Marley, Jack, Sam, Isaac, Rachel, Lucy, Vivienne, and William.
