Hastings resident Richard L. “Dick” Lyon, 82, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, NE.
Memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church.
Dick was born April 27, 1937, in Hastings, NE to Ray & Hilda (Krug) Lyon. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1955 and Central Community College in Hastings and Grand Island. Dick married Darlene Schewe on January 1, 1956, in Hastings, NE. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until 1977, when he retired. While serving in the Navy he was stationed in Florida, Maryland, Georgia, Texas, Spain, and Guam. Dick was an aviation electrician. He received many medals including, Good Conduct, Navy Unit Commendation VQ-2, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, and National Defense Service.
After retiring from the Navy, Dick was employed at Monforts in Grand Island and Adams County Courthouse in Hastings. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eagles Aerie #592, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia Daugherty and Beverly Taylor.
