Hastings resident, Robert W. Burke, 77, of Beverly Healthcare Park-Place, Grand Island, Nebraska, died Friday, August 13, 2004 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Requiem Eucharist will be Wednesday, August 18. 2004; 11:00 A.M. at Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro- Cathedral with The Very Rev. Richard J. Martindale officiating. Committal will be in All Souls Chapel, Saint Mark's Pro-Cathedral.
Mr. Burke was born May 18, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to William C. & Madge M. (Roberts) Burke. He graduated from Kearney High School, Kearney, Nebraska and attended Hastings College and New York University School of Retailing. He served in the United States Navy during WWII from December 1944 until his discharge in July of 1945.He married Naoma Sherman on October 2, 1947 and they later divorced. He was president of Ben Sherman's Clothier and had real estate holdings. He owned United Productions, a film company. In 1980, he moved to Austin, Texas and was a partner in an advertising agency. He moved back to Hastings, Nebraska for a short time, then to Grand Lake, Colorado, before moving back to Hastings in 1999. He was a member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral and a past member of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Hastings Baseball Program Committee, Hastings Rotary and Adams County Fair Board.
Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
