Robert "Bob" was born on a farm in rural Carleton to the parents of Sarah (Steyer) and Alexander "Jiggs" Dudgeon. He was the eldest of 4 children. He attended and graduated from Carleton High School where he played football. After high school, he was drafted into the Navy and served from 1944 to 1946 as a cook's assistant on a troop carrier in the Pacific. He would talk proudly of his experiences and the places they traveled. He married Delma May Wilson on December 28, 1947 in Hebron, Nebraska. They farmed near the Sandy Creek from 1947 until they purchased a farm near the Little Blue River in Thayer County in 1952. Bob and Delma had three children, Richard, Sharon and Catherine "Jane". He continued to actively farm until December 1971. He was a very versatile person, when he quit farming he wasn't ready to quit working. He worked for the Hebron Co-op, laid carpet, and then as the maintenance man for the Thayer County Hospital. He developed a passion for hunting and hunted many years with family in Hebron and Wisconsin.
In 2000, Bob and Delma moved to Hastings to be near Jane and Sharon. They resided in a duplex on the Good Samaritan Campus. Bob enjoyed all the activities he could be involved in at Good Samaritan. He quickly got acquainted with the Wood Shop where he spent many hours making cedar chests, coffee tables, lamps, gun cabinets and any other wooden object his family would request. He started golfing at 75 years of age, had is own garden, and loved to eat fresh tomatoes from his garden. He loved sports and loved watching his children play sports. He was an active volunteer at Good Sam while he was able. In Hebron, he was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Lions and Legion clubs, a foster parent, and played Santa at Christmas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Delma: brother, Gerald Dudgeon; sister, Dorothy Rasher.
He is survived by his brother; Eugene (Betty) Dudgeon, children; Richard (Carol) Dudgeon, Sharon (Roger) Selley and C. Jane (Dean) Sherman, 18 Grandchildren; and 37 Great Grandchildren.
