Blue Hill resident, Robert Paul "Bob" Long, 82, passed away Monday, July 3, 2017, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
A Celebration of Life with military rites by Blue Hill Honor Guard will be Saturday, July 8, 2017; 11:00 A.M. at Blue Hill United Methodist Church, 302 South Webster Street, Blue Hill with Pastors Dan Albers and Kim Dunker officiating. Private family burial will be in Eureka Cemetery, Daykin. Memorials may be given to Home Away From Home Foundation. There will be no viewing or visitation as Bob was cremated.
Bob was married to Adaline F. Schmitt on October 1, 1962. He joined the U.S. Army after high school and was in the 493rd Army Band serving in Korea then transferred to the XVI Army Corps (Res). He received an honorable discharge at the end of his tour in 1963.
Bob taught music with a band focus for 27 years at Blue Hill Public Schools. He was also the school principal for 17 years of that time period. He retired in 1989 and returned in 1992 for one year due to a late resignation, retiring again at the end of the school year. He enjoyed fishing, camping, kayaking, hiking, gardening, "fixing things", taking care of animals (farm and domestic), and surfing the internet about various topics.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Myna Long of Bruning; an infant sister; and wife, Addie Long of Hastings.
