Bob was born July 17, 1929 to Willard & Ermal (Dill) Matticks in Hastings, Nebraska. Bob graduated from Fairfield High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and was stationed in Pusan, Korea with the Korean Military Advisory Group (KMAG). Bob married Melba Jean Ashby on July 17, 1956. To this union, three children were born. He later married Shirley Johnson. Bob was a member of the Fairfield Community First Presbyterian Church, The American Legion, Boy Scouts of America, Little Blue Natural Resource District, and was a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow We-U-Shi Lodge.
Growing up in Fairfield, Bob helped his father at Bunk's Café and at the Orpheum Theatre running the movie projector. Bob was known as "Little Bunk" by many of his father's friends. For most of his life, Bob farmed and sold American Family Insurance, living in the Deweese and Fairfield areas. Bob also served as a Clay County Commissioner for 42 years. Later in life he owned a land terracing business, then built and operated a car wash in Superior, Nebraska.
Bob always stayed busy either working somewhere or serving as a volunteer, a quality he would pass on to his children. He worked hard to give his children, and grandchildren, multiple opportunities to learn and grow. Bob never stopped helping and mentoring his children, he was always there when they needed him. He considered this his most important work in life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and grandchildren, Jordyn and Kiley Lovgren.
