Robert McAuliff

Hastings resident, Robert D. "Bob" McAuliff, 70, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial Services will be Monday, December 4, 2017; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Andrea Paulson officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Ducks Unlimited or Tehama Shrine Transportation Fund. There will be no viewing or visitation. Book signing will be Saturday, December 2, 2017; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., Sunday, December 3, 2017; 1:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Bob was born April 10, 1947, in Columbus, Nebraska to David & Kathryn (Skalka) McAuliff. He graduated from Norfolk High School in 1965. Bob graduated from Hastings College in 1969 with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. He also was the quarterback of the football team. Bob married Marnie Wright on August 2, 1969 in Beatrice and they raised two boys, Bradley and Curtis. Later they divorced and Bob married Kayleen on July 21, 2005.

Bob began his teaching career at Omaha Westside before moving in 1971 and joining the faculty at Hastings High School as a math teacher. He earned his Master's in Secondary Education from University of Nebraska Lincoln and Master's in Education Administration from University of Nebraska Kearney. He left Hastings High School for a brief career in real estate, working for Gateway and later brokering ReMax . He eventually returned to teaching and coaching. He became Head Coach for the Hastings Tigers Football team and Assistant Coach for boys track. He retired in 2005 after 25 years of teaching.

Some of Bob's accomplishments were being a Shrine Bowl Football player, officiating the Shrine Bowl, and serving as Assistant Coach for the South in the Shrine Bowl. He enjoyed many years of officiating football and basketball games. He worked 15 years as an official at the state basketball tournament. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, and guiding in South Dakota and went on several Canadian fishing trips.

Bob was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and was a past member of Tehama Shriners.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
