Robert D. 'Bob' Rodgers, 77, of The Kensington, 233 N. Hastings, died Sunday, August 4, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Rosary service will be Thursday, August 8, 2002; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 9, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, all in Hastings, Nebraska.

Robert D. 'Bob' Rodgers was born February 5, 1925 in Washington, DC. to Henry & Catherine M. (Di Camillo) Rodgers. He was in the United States Marine Corps during WWII from 12-1-1942 to 10-28-1945, serving in the Pacific and was a maintenance chief for a squadron of Marine fighter pilots. His unit saw action on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, Iwo Jima, Midway and the Philippines. He was a staff sergeant when he was honorably discharged. He married Catherine 'Kay' Horan in 1946 in Washington, DC and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2001. He came to Hastings, Nebraska in 1946 and entered the men's clothing business. He was vice president of Ben Sherman's when the store was destroyed by the gas explosion in February of 1979. After living 33 years in Hastings, Nebraska, they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to continue his career in retail men's wear. They then moved to Topeka, Kansas for 15 years, where they lived until the death of his wife. He moved to The Kensington, Hastings, Nebraska where he was currently residing. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Hastings Elks Lodge, a member of the local VFW Post and a former member of the Hastings Jaycees.

Robert D. 'Bob' Rodgers was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Catherine 'Kay', 2 brothers, Henry & Richard.

Joan Madgett - Meridian, ID
