Mr. Schultz, son of Albert and Frieda Schultz, was born and educated in Hastings where he has lived most of his life except for a period of approximately 5 years in Oakland, California. Bob spent his youth living with his mother and father and brothers and sisters on a farm south of Hastings. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1927. In his early twenties, he began working for a local automobile company selling and shuttling cars between Detroit and Hastings.

In 1938, Bob, his wife Beaulah Mayhew Schultz and first son, Robert Jr. moved to Oakland, California. He was an automobile salesman for a bay-area dealer. As World War II began, Bob went to work at United Engineering, an Oakland shipyard building US Navy fleet tugs. During this time, his second son, Albert Schultz was born in Oakland. After the war, Bob and his two sons moved back to Hastings. On May 29, 1945, Bob married Joyce Callahan. Three children were born to this union: Kathleen, Patricia and David.

In 1948, Bob and his brother Albert Jr. began Bob and Al's Auto Sales and Salvage located on South Burlington Ave. He managed and operated the business until 1960 when he sold the business and began working at Farmland Industries as a Safety Engineer where he worked until he retired in 1970. For many years, Bob was an American Red Cross volunteer providing relief services to tornado and hurricane victims and assisting with Red Cross Blood Drives.

Bob was a longtime member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a Boy Scout leader, a volunteer for the Hastings Chapter of the American Red Cross, and a Master Mason member of Midwest Lodge 317.
