Robert "Steve" Heil

Ayr resident Robert Stephen “Steve” Heil, 71, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020, at Providence Place Memory Care, Hastings, NE.

Services with military rites by A.L. Shirley Post #176 are 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Hill with Pastor Leah Krotz officiating. Book signing is 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Thursday at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family to establish a remembrance of Steve that will be displayed at Crystal Lake Recreation Area, Ayr, NE.

Steve was born July 21, 1948, in Nelson, NE to George & Helen (Schiermeyer) Heil. He graduated from Lawrence High School. Steve served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He married Sheryl on July 21, 1977, in Glenvil, NE.

Steve owned a roofing business for over 30 years and retired after 15 years from the U.S. Postal Service in 2009. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. Steve was chairman of the Ayr Village Board for many years and managed Crystal Lake Recreation Area. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also volunteered as a youth fishing instructor for the Game & Parks Commission.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Heil; and sister, Mary Myer.
