Hastings resident Roger L. Golden, Sr., 89, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, NE.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Dale Phillips officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Hospice or Good Samaritan Society Hastings Village. Book signing will be 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Roger was born August 13, 1928, in Hebron, NE to Willie L. & Vella M. (Seaman) Golden. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1947. Roger served in the U.S. Air Force from January 11, 1949, to October 2, 1952, and was stationed at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. He married Virginia M. Gabriel in Greeley, CO in 1950; to this union they had four children Shelley, Roger Jr., Raelene and David. Roger married LaVeta A. Kimminau on July 3, 1963; to this marriage they added two more children to the family, Mary and Bill. LaVeta preceded him in death on November 14, 2015.
Roger worked at Losee & Cornelius Auto Works in Hastings for 17 years and Chief Industries for 28 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Roger was a longtime bowler and is in Hastings Bowling Hall of Fame as well as the Nebraska and National Bowling Hall of Fame. He belonged to the Wood River golf course and was a very talented wood and metal worker.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVeta A. Golden; daughter, Shelley Brady; brothers, Carl, Walter “Bud”, Richard, and Tommy; and sisters, Viola, Wilma, and Doris.
