Roger Whiting

Former Hastings resident, Roger Allen Whiting, 62, of Grand Island Veterans Home, Grand Island, Nebraska, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Memorial services will be Friday, January 18, 2008; 2:00 P.M. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Private family burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Book signing will be Wednesday, January 16, 2008; 9A.M.-5P.M., Thursday, January 17, 2008; 9A.M.-5P.M., Friday, January 18, 2008; 9A.M. -noon. Memorials may be given to the family.

Mr. Whiting was born October 5, 1945 in Hastings, Nebraska to George & Goldae (Klein) Whiting. He graduated from Hastings High School and served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War on the Bon Homme Richard from February 4, 1966 until November 4, 1969. On November 15, 1969, he married Glenda Shafer and they later divorced. He was a Press Operator at Gibraltar Packaging Company.

Mr. Whiting was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Dale Ruxton.
