Ronald Riese

Hastings resident, Ronald J. "Ron" Riese, 71, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Friday, November 10, 2017; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 11, 2017; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Stephen Graeve officiating. Burial with military rites by Juniata American Legion will be Saturday, November 11, 2017; 1:30 P.M. in Juniata Cemetery, Juniata. Memorials may be given to Ron Riese Memorial, which will help with some of his favorite local charities. Visitation will be Thursday, November 9, 2017; 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Friday, November 10, 2017; 9:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Ron was born June 27, 1946, in Hastings, Nebraska to Raymond C. & Bernadine (Loskill) Riese. He graduated from Juniata High School. Ron served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He married Beverly K. "Bev" Sergeant on May 7, 1966, and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2016; she preceded him in death on June 6, 2016.

Ron worked at Great Plains Packaging for 47 years as the head of the shipping department, later retiring. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, American Legion Baseball, and was Hastings Baseball Commissioner for numerous years. He was instrumental in the renovation of Duncan field and was the foundation for an award for service for the American Legion Baseball known as the Ron Riese Service Award. He could be found most mornings having tea at one of his many coffee groups.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Beverly K. "Bev" Riese.
