Rose was born October 1, 1917 on a farmstead in Clay County, Nebraska to Joseph G. & Matilda (Nejzchleb) Bednar. After moving from the farm to Hastings, Rose worked at Jones Drug, kept house for various families, and made decorative ice cream novelties for Swift & Company. She began working at Safeway as a checkout clerk until her retirement. Rose's smiling face greeted many customers over the next thirty years and she was a favorite checker for many. Rose's passions included tending her garden, watching her beloved Cornhuskers, attending the horse races with her sister, Elsie, and anticipating the results of the Powerball Draw. Her poodles Suzie, Mitzi, and Tami were her constant companions bringing her comfort and joy over many years. Rose loved trying out new recipes from the Kitchen Klatter Cookbook for her family and friends. That same love of family and friends led her to visit them often throughout the United States. Rose will be remembered as a loving sister, aunt, and friend.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Mary, Anna, Margie, and Adeline; and one brother, Alex.
