Hastings resident, Rose G. Lewis, 86, of 1912 West 9th Street, died Saturday, June 18, 2005 at her home.
Services will be Friday, June 24, 2005; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Frank Kerkemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Mrs. Lewis was born September 10, 1918 in Clay County, near Fairfield, Nebraska to Diedrich & Johanna (Raske) Garrelts. She was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil, Nebraska. She graduated from Fairfield High School and taught school at District 30, near Edgar, Nebraska for several years. On October 9, 1940, she married Murrell Martin Lewis and moved to Hastings, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1976. At the time of her retirement, she was sales auditor for J.C. Penney Company. She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, WELCA, where she was President in 1960-1961 and of an extension club. She taught Sunday School for 22 years and also taught City Wide Bible School for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader and served on its executive board and was a paraprofessional at Alcott School for several years.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Murrell, and seven brothers.
