Ruby Dedrickson

Hastings resident, Ruby R. Dedrickson, 87, died Monday, February 1, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings.

Services will be Thursday, February 4, 2010; 1:30 P.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Burial will be 4:00 P.M.at Clay Center Cemetery, Clay Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 3, 2010; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at Grace United Methodist Church.

Ruby Rayola Slater was born December 25, 1922 on the farm near Glenvil, Nebraska to Ray & Josie (Josephine Brehm) Slater. She attended school at a country school called West Lynn in Clay County until 8th grade and graduated from Harvard High School. On September 6, 1941, she married Dale Dedrickson in Grand Island, Nebraska. Dale and Frances Portenier stood up at their wedding. She wore a $2.00 pink dress and hat for their wedding. After the ceremony they stopped at a drive-in for a hamburger and malt, and were back at work the next morning at 6:00 A.M. (short honeymoon!). She taught at West Lynn School for a year and then worked at a café in Harvard while Dale was in the service. Dale and Ruby had four children, Marilyn, Stan, Marcia, and Steve. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed baking and sharing food with everyone (especially cinnamon rolls) and playing card games a few days a week.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; daughter, Marilyn; sisters, Twila and Dorothy; brothers, Darrell, LaMoine, Sam, and infant brother.
