Ruby Simon

Blue Hill resident, Ruby Katherine Simon, 98, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 2, 2018; 11:00 A.M. at The Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Blue Hill with Very Rev. James C. Schrader officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Bladen. Memorials may be given to the family. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at The Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Blue Hill. Merten-Butler Mortuary is serving the family.

She was born May 12, 1919 on a farm outside of Bladen to parents, Melvin and Katie Crowe. Ruby grew up near Bladen and after graduating from Bladen High School, taught country school for several years. After marrying Russell Kuhn, they lived together on a farm near Blue Hill. To this union, 4 children were born. Later, she moved to Blue Hill, then to Hastings where she worked for 30 years at the Hastings Regional Center.

Ruby enjoyed being with family. She loved music, especially polka music and dancing to the waltz. She was a self-taught pianist and an organist for the The Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska. She never missed a Husker game and was a huge Cubs fan. She had such special children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She touched so many with her kindness, generosity, and humor.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Katie (Jones) Crowe, her brothers, Raymond Crowe and Harold Crowe, her sisters, Ruth (Crowe) Christensen, Roberta (Crowe) Reigle, her daughter, Joeline (Kuhn) Hartman, her son, Loren (Butch) Kuhn and her second husband, George Simon.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Kuhn) Berns and Barbara (Kuhn) Kissinger and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
