Ruth Holmes

Hastings resident, Ruth Holmes, 94, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at her home.

Services will be Monday, February 10, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Rathod officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.

Ruth was born April 7, 1919 to Ed & Lillie (Peterson) Johnson on a farm two miles south and one mile east of Harvard, Nebraska. She was baptized in infancy and a member of the Methodist Church for 70 years. She attended South East Ward for eight years then graduated from Harvard High School. She graduated from Joseph's Beauty School and worked in Red Cloud and Superior. She married Grant Holmes on November 22, 1941 and to this union was born three sons, Gerald, Robert, and an infant son which died at birth. She then moved to Harvard until Grant returned from the Army and they moved to Hastings. In 1966, she moved to Kearney where she was employed at Holmes Plumbing & Heating Supply. After Grant's death, she moved back to Hastings.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grant Holmes; sons, Bob Holmes and an infant son; and two sisters, Dorothy Weitzel of Harvard, Nebraska and Marie Williams of Hastings, Nebraska.
