Hastings resident, Sarita E. Wilson, 95, died Saturday, May 7, 2005 in Omaha.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with the Rev. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial with military honors by Hastings Veteran Organizations will follow in Greenwood Cemetery at Trumbull.
Miss Wilson was born December 5, 1909 to Walter Scott and Jennie B. (Morris) Wilson near Inland. She attended school at Clay County District 71 and in Trumbull and graduated from Trumbull High School. She attended Hastings College and then enrolled in nurses training at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1933. As a registered nurse, she worked as First Floor Supervisor, as an instructor and as Assistant Night Supervisor at Mary Lanning Hospital and as Surgical Head Nurse at Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. On December 12, 1942, she enlisted in the Army Nurses Corps, serving first at Army and Navy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas and then with the 123rd Evacuation Hospital in France and Germany. She completed her military service on December 23, 1945, as a First Lieutenant. Upon her return to Hastings, she embarked upon a 31-year career as an office nurse, first for Drs. J.E. and C.F. Uridil and then for Dr. George F. Hoffmeister. Miss Wilson was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 55 years and a member of Presbyterian Women, which honored her with a lifetime membership. She was part of the Caregiver ministry of her church, and also cared for the babies in the church nursery for many years. She was active in Mid-Nebraska Women Veterans- Hastings Chapter and Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Nurses Association. She was a longtime volunteer at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and had also volunteered with many organizations, including the YWCA, where she served on the Board of Directors, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Good Samaritan Village, and the Community Concert Association.
Miss Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Hilda Wilson and her nephew, Darrell Wilson.
