Sgt. Cornell

Holstein resident, Sgt. Wayne R. Cornell, 26, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq.

Services will be Sunday, April 1, 2007; 2:00 P.M. at the Hastings City Auditorium, 400 N. Hastings, Hastings, Nebraska with CH (COL) Rodney Armon officiating. Burial with military rites by the Nebraska National Guard Military Honor Guard will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Sgt. Wayne R. Cornell Memorial Fund. Visitation will be Saturday, March 31, 2007; 9am-5pm with family present 1pm-3pm. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home.

Sgt. Cornell was born August 3, 1980 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Larry W. Cornell & Pat (Christensen) Perrie. He graduated from Silver Lake High School, Roseland, Nebraska in 1999. He married Patricia Warburton on June 24, 2002. He was a member of Troop A 167th Calvary of the Nebraska National Guard for 4 years before joining the United States Army in 2005 at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was a member of HHC,1-28 IN, 4BCT, 1ID. He participated in Hapkido and was a 3rd Degree Black Belt Tae Kwon Do, volunteer fireman EMT in Holstein, and V.F.W. in Grand Island. He was a past member of the Hastings Police Department Explorers. He loved his family.

Sgt. Cornell was preceded in death by his step father, Ron Perrie, grandfathers, Marshall Christensen & Richard Cornell.
