Shirley Taylor

Former Hastings resident, Shirley Rae (Wiederspan) Taylor, 69, of Bellevue, NE, died Friday, July 11, 2003 at Midland's Hospital, Papillion, NE. She was born on January 10, 1934 in Hastings, NE to Henry & Lavina (Becker) Wiederspan. Shirley graduated from Hastings High School, Hastings, NE, class of 1951 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hastings College, class of 1955. On November 20, 1954, she married Gaylen Taylor. She was an elementary education teacher and served as an Activities Director in Adult Day Care. Shirley was a former board member and past President of the Tuesday Musical Concert Series in Omaha, NE.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gaylen of Bellevue, NE; her brother Stan Wiederspan of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughters and sons-in-law Betsy and Keith Sheets of Lincoln, NE and Jennifer and Ben Voegtli of Bellevue, NE and by her grandchildren Megan (Sheets) Drayton and Justin Sheets of Lincoln, NE and Amanda and Alexandra Voegtli of Bellevue, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be given to the Hastings College Foundation, the Eastmont Towers Foundation and the Tuesday Musical Concert Series.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 13, 2003 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present at Butler-Volland Funeral Home, 1225 N. Elm Ave., Hastings, NE. Private graveside services at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Memorial services will be Monday, July 14, 2003; 11:30 a.m. at French Memorial Chapel on the Hastings College campus, 8th & Turner, Hastings, NE. Following the memorial service, there will be a reception at the Hastings College Alumni Center, 1001 N. 6th Ave., Hastings, NE.
