Simuel Morris Mullen

Hastings resident Simuel Morris Mullen, 77, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the VA Hospital, Des Moines, IA.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 20, at Livingston Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Rev. Dr. Anna Mosby officiating. Burial, with military rites by the Hastings Military Honor Guard, will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be Thursday, October 19, from 1-7 p.m., with the family present from 5-7 p.m., and one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans in Hastings. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Simuel was born June 24, 1946, in Hastings, NE to Hunter and Hellen Mae (Ellis) Mullen. He graduated from Hastings High School. Simuel served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a Seabee.

Simuel worked as a maintenance engineer for John R. Morreale Meat Company in Chicago, IL. He was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, American Legion Post #30 in Omaha, and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hastings.

Simuel was preceded in death by his parents; son, Simuel Mullen Jr.; daughter, Michelle Towns; five sisters; and four brothers.
