Former Hastings resident, Stanley B. Johnson, 84 of Doniphan, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital - Hospice Unit, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Tuesday, December 8, 2009; 11:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings with Peter Hedstrom officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Book signing will be Monday, December 7, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Hospice.
Stan was born March 23, 1925 in Clay Center, Nebraska to Ralph and Erma (Hager) Johnson. He graduated from Clay Center High School in 1943, Clay Center, Nebraska. On November 12, 1944, he married Roberta Phillips in Smith Center, Kansas. They had two sons, Philip and Curtis. They were later divorced. He married Elvera "Booie" Markuson on May 22, 1978 in Doniphan, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in August 2006. Stan worked as a fireman in Nebraska and a wildcat oil rigger in Kansas and Texas. He worked for Great Plains Packaging for 35 years and continued working with his boss and close friend, Ed Loutzenheiser at Phoenix Industries in Juniata, NE until his passing. Stan enjoyed coaching kids in baseball in the early years, watching Husker sports on TV and hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He enjoyed constructing wooden projects for his grandkids and working on his home on the pond. He enjoyed traveling on vacations with his wife. Stan took pleasure helping his kids, neighbors and friends with any project they came up with and the companionship that came from that.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Elvera "Booie" Markuson, and one son, Philip Dean Johnson, and mother of Philip, Roberta Johnson.
