Steve was born on September 28, 1952 in Concordia, Kansas to Hubert and Gloria (Lewis) Breault and was the only brother among five sisters. After beginning life in Aurora, Kansas, he spent his elementary years in Ada, Kansas, moving to Hardy, Nebraska in 1965. He graduated from Hardy High School in 1970 and moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1971. On July 20, 1974, Steve married his best friend, Nancy Mickelsen at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings and to this union, three daughters were born. In October of 1972, Steve began working at Hastings Regional Center and most recently worked as an activities specialist for alcohol and drug dependent youth. Steve loved his job and coworkers and planned to retire in October after reaching his goal of 45 years.
His wife and family were the focus of his life. He was a devoted father and grandfather, coaching his three daughters and eight grandchildren both in sports and life. One of his greatest joys was taking the family on yearly summer vacations and new adventures. Steve pursued many activities including raising, training, and racing horses; playing and coaching men's fast pitch softball; umpiring; cooking; baking and decorating birthday cakes for his family; and telling old stories about his sports days. Steve enjoyed gardening and entering his vegetables into the county fair with help of his grandchildren. He was an active member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. He loved the Huskers and in 2016 fulfilled a dream of having season tickets. Steve will be remembered for his playful personality, generous heart, and his contagious smile. He was a good friend and holds a special place in many hearts.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Glenn Mickelsen; niece, Angela Langenberg; and nephew, Jordan Fisk.
