Sylvester Beck

Former Trumbull resident, Sylvester "Sid" F. Beck, 85, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Friday, December 14, 2012; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 15, 2012; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Thursday, December 13, 2012; 5 P.M. - 9 P.M. and Friday, December 14, 2012; 9 A.M. - 9 P.M. at the funeral home. Viewing will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.

Sid was born October 25, 1927 in Oakdale, Nebraska to Frank & Helen (Van Ert) Beck. He married Mary C. Eggerling on June 6, 1950 at St. Ludgers Catholic Church in Creighton, Nebraska; she preceded him in death on April 3, 2010. Sid was a farmer in the Trumbull area and was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 4-H leader, Adams County Fair Board, and Nebraska Cattlemen's Association. He was a foster parent for 68 children. Sid enjoyed showing cattle at cattle shows, and enjoyed restoring old antique tractors.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary C. Beck; son, Alan Beck; infant daughter, Mary Frances Beck; sister, Celestine Sillers; and two brothers, Charles Beck & Robert Beck.
