Teresa Johannes

Hastings resident Teresa Louise (Harvey) Johannes, 91, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at College View Assisted Living, Hastings, NE.

Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 7, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday 1-5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Teresa was born on October 11, 1926, in Creston, IA, the daughter of Harry O. and Teresa (Bradley) Harvey. Teresa attended St. Malachy’s through the 8 ^th grade and graduated from Creston High School in 1944. She married Robert Dale Johannes on June 19, 1948, who preceded her in death in 2008 after 60 years of marriage. They raised four children; Richard, Terri, Angie, and Denise.

Teresa took pleasure in her family, her church, and music. She loved to play games with friends and especially enjoyed card games with her grandchildren. Music surrounded her life as she sang in the Creston Chorus and in the church choirs in Creston and Hastings.

Dale and Teresa were both natives of Creston, IA, where their children were born. In 1974, Dale was transferred to Hastings, working for Montgomery Wards. In Hastings, they found a new home and quickly made many new friends and enjoyed life in Nebraska. They both became avid Husker fans and rooted with vigor through every game.

Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Dale Johannes; daughter, Angie Johannes; and sisters, Patty Schlapia and Joanie Eckerman.
