Terry Blauvelt

Hastings resident, Terry J. Blauvelt, 67, joined his heavenly father on Monday, October 7, 2013. He passed away at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, Nebraska after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Rosary will be Friday, October 11, 2013; 10:00 A.M. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church; 10:30 A.M., Hastings with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be Friday, October 11, 2013; 2:30 P.M. in Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to family's choice. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.

Terry was born June 30, 1946 to Irven & Vera (Theis) Blauvelt in Holdrege, Nebraska. He was raised in Holdrege graduating in 1964 and later from Universal Trade School in Omaha. He married Janet K. Nelson on January 3, 1970 in Holdrege at All Saints Catholic Church. This union was blessed with one son, Anthony. During their marriage Terry and Jan lived in the Hastings area. In 2007 they moved to Harvard, Nebraska until returning to Hastings in 2012 to Good Samaritan Retirement Center. Terry grew up in the family painting and decorating business. He worked for Turner Bros. Industrial Maintenance for many years as a supervisor, Jacobi's Carpet One as a contract specialist and then owned and operated his own business, Diamond B. Enterprises. He was a talented photographer and locksmith. Terry was a man of many talents and interests. He and Jan renovated many homes with Terry putting his unique flair into all of them. Racing and his vehicles were a great source of pride and enjoyment, as well as woodworking and photography. He also enjoyed writing prose poetry. Terry was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, as well as, St. Joseph's Catholic Church while residing in Harvard. He enjoyed the Knights of Columbus becoming a 4th Degree Knight in 2012. While living in Harvard he served as a City Councilman and was an active member of the Lions Club, as long as his health permitted, contributing to many community projects.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; beloved sister, Jean; special friend, Reata Stagemeyer; and fathers-in-law, LaWarren Nelson and Maynard Taylor.
