Theona McCoy

Hastings resident, Theona McCoy, 80, Good Samaritan Village, Perkins Pavilion, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Rosary will be Sunday, July 1, 2007; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska. The celebration of her life and Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 2, 2007; 11:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska, with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park, Grand Island, Nebraska at 2:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church or donor's choice. Visitation will be Saturday, 9am-5pm & Sunday, 5pm-9pm at the funeral home and Monday, 1 hr. prior to service at the church.

Mrs. McCoy was born April 4, 1927 to Otto & Alma (Neid) Kraske in Grand Island, Neb. A premature twin, Theona grasped onto life and enjoyed her family, friends, and faith. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Grand Island, attended Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha, Nebraska for a short time, and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island. She practiced her profession as a registered nurse until 2000. She married her high school sweetheart, James L. McCoy in 1951 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. They had 6 children, owned McCoy's Community Pharmacy in David City until Jim's death in 1988. Theona never stopped learning, she obtained her driver's license in her 40's and drove to Colorado the next week; she started downhill skiing in her 50's, and learned to play the piano in her 60's. She was an active member of the Owl's Book Club in David City, Cathedral of the Risen Christ parish nurse program and Matt Talbot Kitchen volunteer in Lincoln.

Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Jack Bolsta; grandson, Scott Graff; and twin sister, Mary Leona Kraske
