Hastings resident, Thomas "Tom" L. Hehnke, 70, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Mary Lanning HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Thursday, June 27, 2013; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Family burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Thomas L. Hehnke Memorial Fund. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 25, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 26, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., and Thursday, June 27, 2013; 9:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
Tom was born November 9, 1942 in Grand Island, Nebraska to O.V. & Lenore (Harrison) Hehnke. He served in the U.S. Army from January 27, 1965 through October 31, 1966 during the Vietnam War. Tom married Nancy Nabity on July 29, 1967 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, Nebraska. They moved to Ord, Nebraska in August 1976 where Tom owned T-J Heating & Cooling. He worked for Hastings College from 1991-1997, and Jerry's Sheet Metal in Grand Island from 1997 until he retired in December 2006. They moved to Hastings in April 1991. Tom was a member of the Eagles Aerie #592, member of Elks Lodge #159, and life member of V.F.W. Post #1346. He loved to golf, spend time with family and friends, and reading. Tom played legion baseball and umpired legion baseball for many years.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and infant grandsons, Justin and Jeremy Osentowski.
