Thomas Porter

Grand Island resident, Thomas Alexander Porter, 71, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska surrounded by his family.

Services will be Saturday, January 6, 2018; 11:00 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Chaplain John Mueller officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Harvard Cemetery, Harvard. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project. Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2018; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Thomas was born December 23, 1946, in Decatur, Arkansas to Floyd & Claudine (Burns) Porter. He served in the U.S. Marines from February 25, 1966, until May 31, 1969, as a corporal. Thomas married Shirley Rust on October 1, 1976.

Thomas retired from the Marine Corp and the metals he received include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lynn Porter, brother, Ken Porter; sister, Nancy Daring; and great-grandson, Heath Pierson.
