Hastings resident Tommy Sawyer Brown, 82, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at The Kensington, Hastings, NE.
Graveside Services with military rites by the Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with family present, Tuesday, October 17, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
Tommy was born to Leonard and Ruby Cora (Stevens) Brown on March 7, 1941, in Orlando, FL. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, TX in 1959. Tommy married Marie Jo Brown in 1959, they had three children and later divorced.
Tommy joined the United States Air Force in 1959 and served until 1967 as a medic. In 1973 he joined the National Guard, Company D2-134 as a helicopter medic in Lincoln, NE. In 1977 he moved to Hastings and worked for Alliant Communications for 23 years. He retired from the military on December 5, 1992, after 27 years of service. On June 11, 1983, he married Jenneth Jurgens. After retiring from Alliant, he worked at Walmart to pass his free time. He enjoyed talking about cars and shooting guns.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ruby Cora; wife, Jenneth; and in-laws, Bob and Janine Cooper and Tom & Karen Stroebel.
