Former Hastings resident Trionne Marjean Brown, 95, passed away Monday, May 13, 2024, at The Pines Nursing Home, Blue Hill, NE.    

 

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Michelle Loeffelholz officiating. Burial will be at Juniata Cemetery in Juniata. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, and one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Start Over Rover or the family’s choice. Trionne was born February 4, 1929, in Hastings, NE to Albert and Clara (Penn) Gangwish. Her youth was spent living in the Juniata area. Trionne attended and graduated from Roseland High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one semester. She was active in 4-H work as a leader. 

 

Trionne married Lawrence Brown on June 8, 1948, in Hastings, NE. To this union, four children were born: Shirley, Mary, Peggy, and David. In 1952, she moved from Hastings to Roseland where she raised her family. After her husband’s death in 1987, she decided to return to Hastings in 1990. 

 

She started the first Brownie and Girl Scout Troop in Roseland in 1967. She was also a member of the Eagle Auxiliary. 

 

Trionne worked at Mary Lanning Hospital in the nursery from 1948 to 1973. She then worked as a food manager for the Roseland Public Schools and later Silver Lake Public Schools. She was active in district and state food service, where she served as President and Vice President of District 5. Later she became the President of the Nebraska Food Service. She also attended the National Convention in Indianapolis and Philadelphia. She retired in 1988. 

 

Trionne volunteered for the Mid-Nebraska Community Service and R.S.V.P. program. For 25 years she volunteered at the Ark Daycare Center. Trionne knitted hundreds of mittens for the children at the Ark Daycare, as well as for the children at Lincoln, Alcott, Longfellow, Head Start, Christ Lutheran, and Sutton Schools.  

 

Trionne enjoyed traveling, visiting many of the states, as well as overseas trips. Her favorite trip was to Iceland. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards with her neighbor, Gerry. They were joined every Wednesday by Shirley and Mary.


Trionne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Brown; brothers, Dale Gangwish and Gale Gangwish; and daughter, Peggy.
