Vance Anderson

Hastings resident, Vance Arthur Anderson, 100, passed away Friday, September 10, 2010 at his residence.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, September, 15, 2010; 10:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Monday, September 13, 2010; 1 P.M. - 9 P.M. and Tuesday, September 14, 2010; 9 A.M. - 9 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church / Pooh Corner, 621 N. Lincoln Avenue, Hastings, NE 68901; Mary Lanning Hospice, 715 N. St. Joseph Avenue, Hastings, NE 68901; or Special Olympics Team - Shooting Stars, 6130 Adams, Lincoln, NE 68507. Condolences may be sent to www.lbvfh.com. Mr. Anderson was born April 8, 1910 in Cushing, Nebraska to Mads George & Ollie V. (Holbrook) Anderson. He moved from Cushing to Hastings with his family in 1923. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1928 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for three years. On June 12, 1935 he married Doris M. King at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, and she preceded him in death on August 13, 1994. He was one of the owners - Vice President of Western Land Roller, and served on its Board of Directors. Some of his many civic and community activities included the following: served eleven years on the Hastings Public School Board; three 3-year terms on Hastings Utility Board; was on the Board of Directors of Midwest Irrigation Company of Henderson, Nebraska; ten years on advisory council of University of Nebraska Ag College; Advisory Council College of Engineering at the University of Nebraska; DeMolay Dad; Hastings Chapter Order of DeMolay for six years and was awarded the Legion of Honor Degree for services from National DeMolay Chapter; published the book, "Development of Irrigation Well Drilling in Nebraska" in 1981; presented with the University of Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement Award in 1982. He was inducted into the University of Nebraska Hall of Fame on April 22, 1995 in their Department of Biological Systems Engineering. On February 15, 2002, he received the Wayne Madsen Award for community service with the Nebraska Well Drillers Association in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2005 he received the Rotary International Commitment to Service award for more than fifty years of member ship. On July 28, 2009, he received the Ground Water Foundation - Maurice Kremer Ground Water Achievement Award. He was a lifetime member of the Sand Hills Golf Club, Mullen, Nebraska, and a member of Lochland Country Club, Hastings, Nebraska. He was the oldest living member of First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, member since April 12, 1925.

Vance was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brother, Clarence Anderson and sister, Helen Richardson.
