Varnum Millard

Hastings resident, Varnum "Barney" W Millard, 92, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Monday, December 20, 2010; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Lee R. Wigert officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. There will be no visitation. Book signing will be Saturday, December 18, 2010; 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family.

Varnum was born October 16, 1918 in Hastings, Nebraska to Benjamine Franklin & Francis E. (Munden) Millard. He graduated from Hastings High School. On February 6, 1953 he married Velma Nelson in McCook, Nebraska. Velma preceded him in death on June 15, 2009. Varnum served in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1946. He worked as a cook, owned two bowling alleys, and managed Morris Paint in Grand Island, Nebraska. He also greeted at Wal-Mart during his retirement.

Varnum was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma Millard; one sister; and one brother.
