Vearl Jensen

Hastings resident, Vearl L. Jensen, 96, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 at College View Assisted Living & Memory Support, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services with Masonic memorial tribute will be Friday, August 30, 2013; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge #317, or donor's choice.

Vearl was born May 9, 1917 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Thorvald "TC" & Clara (Warp) Jensen. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1946. He was the supervising engineer in the design and the construction of the Hastings Senior High School. In 1953 he began working at Morrison Quirk Enterprises as a structural engineer, designing projects throughout North and South America, until his retirement at the age of 88.

In 1941 Vearl Jensen was united in marriage to Marion Lundeen. She preceded him in death in 1966. He is survived by five children: Lawrence (Anita) of Macedonia, Ohio; Carolyn (David) Fairbanks of Lexington, Nebraska; Clarke Jensen of Taos, New Mexico; Rodney (Lynne) Jensen of Lexington, Kentucky; and Robert (Cate) Jensen of Georgetown, Texas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandsons.

In 1982 Vearl Jensen was united in marriage to Nina Blackburn Holt. He is survived by Nina and her children: Don (Pat) Holt of Omaha, Nebraska; Susan Shreck of San Diego, California; and Jim (Laurie) Holt; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a brother, Omar (Maxine) Jensen of Lincoln, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vearl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion Jensen; sister, Elaine; and brothers, Stanley, Ronald, and Donald.

He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Midwest Lodge #317, Scottish Rite, and Tehama Temple Shrine, a Sunday school teacher, a Boy Scout volunteer leader, past president of Kiwanis International, and a licensed pilot.
